Bring on the friendly competition
Team challenges are one of the most fun and engaging ways to get your group moving. SuperDash makes it easy to create, edit, and manage your teams — whether you want to build them yourself or let participants get creative with their own punny names.
Before you start
Create a Team challenge. Select a Team Leaderboard or Team Virtual Race.
If you didn’t add a team mode when creating your challenge:
Go to your Challenge Overview
Click Edit Challenge
Add Team Leaderboard or Team Virtual Race as one of your modes
Choose whether to rank by steps, active minutes, or distance
👉 Learn more about challenge modes in our Ultimate Guide to Stridekick Challenge Modes.
Step 1: Choose who creates teams
When setting up your challenge, you’ll see two options:
Option | What it means | Best for |
Admins create teams | You’ll create all teams directly in SuperDash. Participants will choose from your pre-made list when they join. | Structured group programs or department/team competitions |
Participants create teams | Participants can create and name their own teams when they join the challenge in the app. | Casual or social challenges where creativity = part of the fun |
Step 2: Set a maximum team size (optional)
You can limit how many participants can join a team — for example, max 10 per team.
This keeps things fair, especially if your group has a mix of big and small departments or friend groups.
If you don’t set a max, teams can be as big (or small) as they want.
Do note that team scoring is based on the average total activity of a team member. This allows teams of different sizes to compete fairly. Learn more about our team scoring here.
Step 3: Create teams in SuperDash
If you selected Admins create teams, here’s how to build them:
Open your challenge in SuperDash.
Scroll down to the Manage Teams section.
Click Create Team.
Add your team name.
Optionally upload or edit a team image and cover photo — something that fits your theme.
Click Create Team.
Repeat for each team you want to include.
You’ll see your list of teams populate below, complete with names and images. Once participants start joining, they’ll show up under the team they select.
Step 4: Edit or delete teams
Need to make a change? Onced you click into a team, you can:
Edit a team name or image — click the pencil/edit icon next to the team.
Delete a team entirely
🧠 Note: If a team already has members, deleting it will remove the team and unassign those participants. Use with care!
Step 5: Monitor team participation
As people join your challenge:
You’ll see their names appear under the appropriate team.
You can remove participants from a team if needed.
You can view how many members each team has at a glance.
Coming soon: You’ll be able to assign or move participants between teams right inside SuperDash.
Pro tips for great team challenges
Keep teams small and balanced. It’s more fun when everyone can contribute meaningfully.
Pick a theme. Food, movies, animals, inside jokes — anything goes!
Share updates. Weekly leaderboard shout-outs keep teams motivated.
Encourage creativity. Let participants name their own teams for added personality. Here’s some fun ones for inspiration.
